Ruth-Anna Macqueen

Family cycling campaigner

Ruth-Anna Macqueen lives in Hackney with her husband and three young children. She never set out to become a cycle campaigner or activist but had always cycled to work (as an obstetrician and gynaecologist) and so, after the birth of her eldest son, it just seemed natural to buy a bike seat as soon as he could sit up. With two children, she bought a second-hand trailer and then found out about cargo bikes. It was love at first pedal!

She is passionate about opening people’s eyes to the possibilities of family cycling as a solution to so many of the problems we have both individually and at a societal level. Ruth-Anna has been involved in many family cycling initiatives from setting up and running the Hackney Family Cycling Library and Kidical Mass rides to creating online resources (the popular Family Cycling UK Facebook group and the Hop Onboard Project). She was voted London Cycle Campaigner of the Year in 2017.
