Cambridge’s Commons: Open Cambridge ride

University Centre

Join Green Badge guide Gerald Smith to explore Cambridge’s original ‘Green Belt’ during a gentle 5km cycle ride. There will be three rides taking place on 16, 17 and 18 September as part of Open Cambridge.

What exactly is a common and how have these areas featured in the growth and development of Cambridge?

During a 90-minute tour, participants will see how the way they were used and even their appearance was influenced by the underlying topography as well as by diverse groups of townspeople – including sheriffs, nuns, monarchs, millers, hermits, zealots, scientists, academics, merchants and sporting types.

Note: participants are responsible for their own cycles and safety equipment. Children under 16 are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
